Singing the Praises of Jukebox Musicals

Trolls Band Together
Trolls Band Together (2023)

Trolls Band Together is an animated jukebox musical that pays tribute to the Boy Bands of the 1990s, particularly NSYNC.

A jukebox musical typically uses music from a certain era or an artist/group, and it can really boost an artist's popularity.

Many recent jukebox musicals have become instant fan favourites, such as Mama Mia! (2008) and Sing (2016), while older films, like The Blues Brothers (1980) and Singin' in the Rain (1952), still appeal to modern audiences.

Trolls Band Together follows the tradition of the first two Trolls films, which were also jukebox musicals.

The movies combine humour, dazzling colour, and upbeat songs for a positive feel-good experience.

Roger Ebert movie reviews says Trolls Band Together is the best of the Trolls movies to date. With sly references to Justin Timberlake (formerly of NSYNC) and occasional psychedelic animation, this film charms kids and grown-ups alike.

Singing along, boy-band style, is definitely allowed at the Jewel.

Trolls Band Together shows at Stettler's Jewel Theatre December 1-7. Please check jeweltheatre.ca for showtimes before arriving at the theatre.

See you at the movies!
