Celebrating our 70th Anniversary
The Jewel Theatre held its Grand Opening on December 21, 1953.
To celebrate this amazing 70-year history, the Jewel will be sharing memories, articles, movie trailers, movie posters, and even stories from locals.
The first movie shown at the Jewel Theatre was the musical western, Calamity Jane (1953), starring Doris Day and Howard Keel. Day stars as the sharp shooter Calamity Jane who protects the Dakota Territory from evil doers.

The Jewel's advertising promised this film would be a "Bang-up Tune-Filled Musical Western in Technicolor".
