Book Club Movies: By the Numbers

Book Club: The Next Chapter
L-R: Mary Steenburgen, Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen

Book Club (2018) and Book Club: The Next Chapter (2023) are films featuring four legendary actresses with real Star Power.

Although the primary audience for these films appears to be women from the Baby Boomer generation, the themes of love and friendship resonate with all of us.

With the opening of Book Club: The Next Chapter at Stettler's Jewel Theatre on May 26, here are some stats on these remarkable actresses.

  • All four lead actresses have been nominated for Academy Awards, and three of them are Oscar-winning.

  • Jane Fonda has been nominated for Best Actress seven times, and won the award twice: for Klute (1972) and Coming Home (1979).

  • Diane Keaton has four Oscar nominations and one win, for Annie Hall (1977).

  • Mary Steenburgen received - and won - her single nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The film is the little-known Melvin and Howard (1981).

  • Candice Bergen was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Starting Over (1979), but lost to Meryl Steep in Kramer vs. Kramer (1979).

  • These actresses have a combined total of 315 film and television acting credits.

  • They've also logged an astonishing 218 years of combined on-screen acting experience.

It's always a treat to watch the pros on the big screen, especially women like these who have exceptional track records. We hope you'll join us here at the Jewel!
